Why is it important to sleep on a SATIN PILLOWCASE?

Cotton pillowcases cause friction in hair and may lead to excess hair coming out, especially with wild sleepers. Oil from the scalp also sets into cotton pillowcases, which can lead to dry hair. If you're skeptical of this, put oil on your hair and see how many stains the cotton pillowcase will have by the time you wake up. It defeats the purpose of oiling your hair if your pillowcase gets more hair oil than your scalp.



Silk pillowcases and silk hair wraps (also called "wrap caps" or "head wraps") help keep moisture in the hair, and for dry hair, which can be common with black hair, this is especially important. For women with perms or pressed hair, wearing a satin or silk head wrap can also help flatten hair and keep a hairstyle neater for a longer amount of time. If the hair is wrapped around the scalp, this also helps avoid bushy edges and ends. With humid spring and summer months, wearing a wrap cap is also necessary for styling purposes.

Sleeping on satin or silk pillowcase can keep our mane tamed while preventing split ends from forming. When we sleep on a cotton pillowcase, the tossing and turning, or just laying our head on the cotton for a period of time, can cause friction. The friction then leads to hair breakage, split ends and dryness. So yes, cotton is known to also absorb moisture from our hair, leaving it dry, brittle, and more vulnerable to breakage. For those who prefer not to, or cannot sleep on satin or silk, the next best thing is wrapping your tresses in a satin or silk scarf. When we toss and turn, dragging or rubbing our heads and hair across the fabric of our pillows we can snag the cuticle layer of the hair against the fibers on the pillow. This rubbing results in roughing up the surface of the hair shaft and leads to the tangles and knots. It’s important that in the morning when you get ready to start your day, you use care in removing these tangles to avoid breakage. A detangling spray is a good idea, as is removing any tangles and snags before you shower or shampoo your hair, according to Hairfinder.

Have you ever did Bantu Knots? I tried them on my daughter. They came out really good to me. Bantu Knots give you a wave look that flexi rods just don't give you. You can actually do the Bantu knots on wet hair or dry hair. Of course wet hair takes forever to dry. If you do it on dry hair, you can leave it in for about 6 hours and you will have beautiful waves. Check out the pictures of her hair see step by step how it turned out. Remember, this was my first attempt on her hair (I have did it on mine before) and it was dry.

Picture 1: Blow dry it out (not a lot), just enough to make it straight and get the tangles out. Then section it off and apply your leave in or curl pudding or a moisturizer. She had about 13-15 knots in her head. Tie it down with a Satin scarf and sleep tight!

Picture 2: The next morning, I oiled my hands with grapeseed oil (but you can use Olive Oil, Jojoba, Coconut oil - whatever you like) so I would frizz up her hair. I gently took down the Bantu knots. If you look, you can see the pretty waves.

Picture 3: Gently separate each section until it looks full and you can no longer see the parts. You can then style it how you want. I decided to put two pretty hair clips. I wanted to do a headband but I didn't have one to match her outfit.

Picture 4: This is a picture of the back. I just love the wave pattern it created on her hair. It actually came out better than mine. The next time I do Bantu knots on my hair, I will do it dry. I will post pictures!
